Otakon 2009 Recap/Pics

Just because both of you posted something already, I shall as well. I’m still also in after-con depression mode so I’m going to post something small and update it later XD. Now updated with full coverage of Otakon 2009.

FUNimation Halts Slayers Revolution Subs

Unless you were living under a rock over the last couple of days, you’ve probably already heard that Funimation has sent a cease and dessist order to halt the production of the Slayers Revolution fansubs. This doesn’t mean that Funimation has the licensce to the show, they are simply enforcing the distrobution rights of the Japanese licensor, Enoki Films. Static-Subs and Eclipse Productions for their part have aggreed to halt production of the fansubs.

I will say that I am pleasantly surprised that Static-Subs and Eclipse Productions have agreed to stop prodcution on the fansubs: it is rare to see that kind of integrity. For our part we’re not going to continue providing reviews of Slayers Revolution. It kind of sucks since I was really enjoying the show and had some fun things planned, but we’ve been wanting to cover domestic reviews and releases more than we have been, so we already have plans in that area to help fill the void.

I (cautiously) welcome our new Funi-Overlords

Breaking our usual flow here a little because some of the news coming out of Anime Expo is just so big (what I wouldn’t give be there right now; the atmosphere must be astounding). Yesterday we got the news that Funimation picked up a number of old Geneon titles and today comes the news that they’ve nabbed an even larger number of titles from ADV Films’. While I’m ecstatic over being able to get my hands on Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage, I think Funimation needs to proceed carefully over the next year lest this triumph turn to tragedy.
