Alter 1/8 Haruka Takamori PVC: Beat Blades Haruka
I know almost nothing about Haruka’s source material Beat Blades Haruka, but when has that ever stopped me froming buying an amazing PVC? I will admit that it was a bit of a gamble this time, as I can’t become farmiliar with a Japanese H-game as easily as I can with anime, but I figured a good PVC is a good PVC regardless and decided to take the risk. I think you can tell already that it was absolutely worth it! Today we’re taking a look at Alter’s 1/8th scale Haruka Takamori PVC.

Alter Haruka: Background
Alter’s 1/8th scale Haruka Takamori PVC was released just last month (September) and retails for $70 USD. Being so new Alter’s Haruka is extremely easy to find but I have a feeling that a figure this nice won’t last long. So if you want one I’d hurry up and get it.
Kotobukiya also released a version of Haruka just this last summer that’s eerily similar to Alter’s Haruka. That figure is nice, but I don’t see why you would want it. For only $10 more you can get Alter’s Haruka which has better sculpt work and much better painting. Kotobukiya’s “damaged” Haruka is mighty temping, however. ![]()

Beyond the Stream…of Awesome
I bought Haruka on a whim. While I know Alter’s high production standards, I know nothing of the Beat Blades Haruka outside of the fact that it’s an H-game. But I had seen the pictures and thought I’d take a gamble on it. She arrived last week and once I actually had Haruka in my hands I knew the gamble had paid off (for once).
This is an extremely nice figure, even for an Alter sculpt. Not only is Haruka given solid highlights and tones, but the base application itself is crisp and clean. I also like that the paint doesn’t bleed over like in some other figures (not that that’s something Alter ever had a problem with). I just can’t get over how the figure just ‘pops’.
I hinted at my dislike of Kotobukiya’s Haruka sculpt earlier, but the one are where I think they go it right was in Haruka’s eyes. Then again, it’s nice to have something a little different than the ‘googly eyes and dumb smiles’ faces that a lot of PVCs have, but I still think they needed to be bigger. It looks like she’s falling asleep at some angles.
I’m a little worried that gravity will one day take its toll and Haruka will begin to warp. My room tends to be on the warmer side so this is something I worry about with all my figures (even the ones not so precariously perched). The interesting thing is that the leg Haruka balances on feels solid – almost like it’s made of a stiffer grade of plastic – so I don’t think I have to worry about Haruka. That’s good news; now I can get back to worrying about my 1/6th scale Ikkitousen figures. ![]()

Night Combat Phase
The little bit of research into Beat Blades Haruka did revealed that Haruka specializes in thunder based attacks, so given that I went back to the old setup this week since I didn’t think using fire would be appropriate. That and I’m lazy. ![]()
I like the way these came out, which is odd, because I really didn’t do anything special with the setup. Guess it must be because the figure is so amazing.

Final Thoughts
Alter’s 1/8th scale Haruka Takamori PVC from Beat Blades Haruka is a new gem in my collection. A friend once told me that PVCs from H-games are usually nicer than PVCs from anime and manga. At the time I laughed it off, but I’ve come to realize he was right. Don’t believe me? Take Atler for example: click on the “Alter” tag below and take a look at the figure reviews we’ve done so far and see for yourself. The anime PVCs are always nice, some exeptional, but the H-game PVCs are a cut above.
It’s kind of unfair. Most of us can’t get familiar with the source material as easily as with anime and that’s exactly what I wanted to do after owning Alter’s Haruka for a bit. I’d love to see an anime adaptation, though. In fact, I demand it. Do you hear me Japan?! It’s the least you can do for all the money I’ve thrown your way!
