Good Smile Company 1/8 Melissa Seraphy PVC: Wagamama Capriccio
Today we’re taking a look at Good Smile Company’s 1/8th scale Melissa Seraphy PVC from Wagamama Capriccio. I’ve avoided doing this figure for a while as all I know about the source material is that it’s an eroge. What bugs me though is that I’ve been completely unable to find anything else about it. No wiki; no English patch; no nothing. I may have failed in my search, but I still enjoy the figure.

Good Smile Melissa: Background
Good Smile’s 1/8th scale Melissa Seraphy PVC was released in Japan back in August of 2006. Originally retailing for about $60 USD Melissa has since been discontinued. Being such and old release she is fairly difficult to find, but a few pop up on eBay every now and then.
Melissa features a removable giant pumpkin skirt. I assume that if I actually played the game the giant pumpkin skirt would make sense, but for right now it’s enough for me just to appreciate how cute she is.

Pumpkin Skirt Girl
This is another solid sculpt from Good Smile. Melissa is crafted using a steady hand and an amazing imagination when it comes to color. The pose might look a little static, but I think it’s mostly the pervasive pumpkin getting in the way.
Still, despite the overbearing nature of the pumpkin, there is quite a lot of detail in Melissa’s upper torso. The curling of the hair and the definite positioning of the arms give this sculpt a subtle energy.
In the past I’ve written about how Good Smile Company tends to use high contrast color scheme (as apposed to Alter’s more subtle scheme) but, from the character designs I’ve seen, I think Melissa here is a great example of how that scheme can be used to an incredible effect. I doubt Alter’s usual scheme would have resulted in something this appropriately vivid.
I lovingly mocked the giant pumpkin a bit, but it was actually the biggest factor for me picking Melissa up. The idea is too quirky not to love. Good Smile certainly didn’t skimp on the detail when Melissa goes into cast-off mode either.
There is no real way to use the stand without the giant pumpkin, which is perfectly fine with me. I love the giant pumpkin too much not to display Melissa without it. I mean, how can you not love that giant, eerily cute face?

Low Lighting
Decided to try some some low lighting shots again for the first time in a while. I love the warmth to the color these shots came out with, but I regret not swapping out the background for something darker.
Oh well, next time I will.

Final Thoughts
I’m pleasantly surprised on how well Melissa has held up over the last two and a half years. Normally, you’d expect a little yellowing due to sun exposure or warping due to heat but none of those problems affect Melissa. I either treated her well or she has some amazing production values.
Glaring out through the dark with a candle within,

when are you going to do a post on your room.
like a tour or something.
YOU NEED TO!
My room is a mess, that’s why!
Honestly though, until you mentioned it, I hadn’t really ever thought about doing something like that. But I like the idea, so I’ll have to give it some thought.
And I’ll have to clean my room too.
CLEAN IT. CLEAN IT NOW.
and dedicate the post to me.
;D.
I kinda want to get figures like this for Halloween and such… but I’d totally just have them on display 23/7/365 anyway. But I suppose one day I’ll use it as an excuse, perhaps some christmas decorations as well.
