Good Smile Company 1/7 Shiki Ryougi PVC: Kara no Kyoukai
Last Friday I did the Max Factory Saber Zero review, so I think I’ll continue the Type-Moon, girls with swords trend today. Today we’re taking a look at Good Smile Company’s 1/7th scale Shiki Ryougi PVC from Kara no Kyoukai.

Good Smile Company Shiki Ryougi: Background
Good Smile Company (GSC) Shiki Ryougi PVC was released just this last December. She should retail for about $70 USD prior to any shipping or import fees.
Being such a new release GSC Shiki Ryougi should be relatively easy to hunt down, but I don’t really know how popular the movies are. I hope they’re well recieved, given that Maaya Sakamoto provides Shiki’s voice.

I marvel at this kimono. For all I know no Japanese woman would ever consider wearing it, but I love what it’s doing nonetheless. It’s intricately detailed and sculpted beautifully and it does it in a way that’s not overbearing (more on that below). For example, the flower prints on Shiki’s torso are a bold color, but their thinness give the overall print an ethereal feel.
The other thing that GSC does well with this kimono is using it to add some dynamic energy to the sculpt. As I pointed out with Saber last week, sculpts where the figure is upright can very easily be one-dimensional. The way that GSC crafted this kimono – from the big pieces flowing off her arms to the small ruffles in her skirt – do a lot to help Shiki overcome this problem.
I love the way Shiki’s face turned out in this sculpt: fantastic sculpt with just a hint of blush. From what I’ve seen of her character designs though, it looks likes she’s supposed to be far more cold then she’s portrayed here. But, since the face is so nice, I’m not going to ding GSC for that. At least it’s not a dumb, blank smile. ![]()
Originally I was going to argue that the kimono was too overbearing for the sculpt because, well, there’s not a lot going on with Shiki besides it. I even spent most of the post talking about it. But as I thought about it more, I began to notice how well GSC used the solid, bold colors in her sash and the trim to really give this figure a great balance.

Final Thoughts
While I had to Wiki Kara no Kyoukai to figure out what it exactly was, I’m really glad I got this figure. Good Smile Company put a ton of effort into the design and execution of Shiki Ryougi which it really comes through in the final product.
That’s all for today. Be sure to check out the full gallery below.

Probably one of the figures which selled out immediately.
I have to get this one once they do a re-stock.
Thanks for the review, awesome as usual.
Now this is a Shiki Ryougi figure I like. The other one is a bit too bland, this is classical.
