Good Smile Company 1/8 Miku Hatsune PVC: Vocaloid (Redux)

Today I’m fulfilling an overdue promise to you all to redo the Good Smile Company (GSC) Miku Hatsune gallery.  This in itself is not totally worthy of it’s own post honestly, but it’s been a long week so I’m using this as an easy way to keep myself on schedule.  Hope you’ll forgive me just this once.

Stargazer (Redux)

Most of what I originally wrote still stands for this GSC Miku Hastune figure; I just wanted an opportunity to redo the gallery using better lighting to correct the skin tones.  Basically I had been using 3500K lighting which has a slightly yellow tint.  That became sickeningly obvious when I started using the Canon G10 and not soon afterward I switched to 5500K bulbs (which are in the white light area of the spectrum).

Since I did this mostly give you all a better idea of the color on Miku the text will be very brief this time around.  That said I hope you still enjoy the über nice pictures.

Now that you can see images that aren’t tinted, I think you can appreciate the subtle tone and highlight work GSC achieved with this sculpt.

Miku has an amazingly cute face.  This is a case where I totally forgive the “blank and dumb” smile.

There is a lot more energy to the sculpt than I noticed the first time around; like the way the skirt flicks up just a tad.

Low Lighting Renew

This last Monday I tried low lighting shots for the first time since switching to the 5500K bulbs and found all the warmth I had loved about these shots was missing.  Odd yes, but something I should have expected given the previous low lighting shots were using the 3500K bulbs.

So I swapped back in the 3500K bulbs for these shots and SHOCK! the warmth came back. Big Grin  I do think these are still a little bright so I’ll have to make a mental note to adjust the exposure in the future.

Mike Hatsune is a cast off.  Not entirely sure why GSC chose to do this, but I ain’t complaining.  Razzberry

Final Thoughts

I don’t plan to make it a point to redo any more of the old galleries for PolyvinylCrush.  I think I’ve come a long way in terms of shot composition and lighting design since the early days, but what’s past is past and there will be plenty of awesome/new figures to shoot in the future.  But since GSC Miku Hatsune was slightly more recent and is an amazing figure, I felt it would be leaving the figure “incomplete” to leave those old shots standing.

Be sure to check out the full gallery below.
