Oricon Top 10 (04.20.09) – Week 15

So this week I was going to link to a video I uploaded on my youtube page because it relates to this week’s top 10. However I found out that my account has been permanently disabled. LOL. Reason being, I uploaded some videos that shouldn’t have been uploaded. Oh well I just made a new account and will pay closer attention to what I upload =P. Anyway, here’re this week’s top 10. Again nothing too interesting, a couple of new releases and a number of repeats.

So the video that I was going to link to was my video of Kawashima Ai performing her new single “Daijoubu Dayo” at the 2009 Cherry Blossom Festival / Sakura Matsuri in Washington D.C. on April 4th, 2009. With that said, one of the singles I will write about today is Kawashima Ai’s newest single.

Another single that I didn’t even notice made it as high as it did until I looked was alan’s new single Kuon no Kawa. She has been on the charts before however she hasn’t really ever broken the top 10, in fact I don’t believe she ever has broken the top 10. So this week I will write about alan and Kawashima Ai.

First is alan, who is unique in that she is of Tibetan descent. Her full name is Alan Dawa Dolma. She was discovered by avex when they held auditions in China in 2006 and she debuted in 2007 and has only seen moderate success with her singles, although she has appeared in a number of music shows such as Music Japan and Music Fighter. Her newest single, Kuon no Kawa, peaked at #1 in the daily charts and #3 in the weekly charts, making it the highest charting single by a singer from China.

The song is a slow, mellow song. The song is used as the theme song to the movie “Red Cliff Part II”. I’ve been interested in alan for quite a while as she is very attractive lol, yes that’s what gets me interested in some of these singers. Her song’s are descent, they have an old style feel to it, kind of like a folk genre. Listening to her though, I wouldn’t think she looks like the way she does. Meaning it’s one of those where you see the person and am surprised at their style of singing or vice versa.

Next is Kawashima Ai, who some of you may know from her days with nao in I WiSH. Some may know her from One Piece movie 8 in which she performed the theme song. Some may know her from her performance recently at Washington DC. Or maybe some of don’t have a clue who she is. She originally debuted with nao in the duo I WiSH which is most well known for the song “Asu e no Tobira”. This song is quite well known, it appears on numerous “Best of…..” countdowns on Music Station. It also stayed in the Oricon charts for a long time, over a year I believe.

Unfortunately for her, as she went solo, she hasn’t had much success compared to her days in I WiSH. Her newest single this week only sold about 8800 copies. It still made it into the top 10 although, lately the charts have been kind of weak haha. The song however is not bad, I actually enjoy it. It’s not too slow and it’s not too fast, it sort of fits her style. I’d say it’s pretty similar to Asu e no Tobira. I also purchased her Best Album at DC and got her autograph, I even got a picture with her ^_^ lol. Since my friends have told me that I do not look happy in that picture, I put what I really looked like on the inside. I’m so much bigger than her >_>…and yeah I know I was far away…there was a table in the middle! >.<

Oh and as mentioned earlier, I did take a video of her performing Daijoubu Dayo in DC. It isn’t the whole thing as I started recording pretty late but it’s got a majority of the song, just missing the first couple of verses lol. This is also my new youtube account for those who have linked to this site from this link because my previous one got removed >_>.
