Muv-Luv Alternative PVC: Good Smile Company Meiya Mitsurugi
I love Rumbling Hearts as much as the next guy, but I have to admit I’m a little lost on the sequels surrounding it. How did we go from a slice of life drama revolving around a comatose girl to katanas, skin tight latex battle armor, and mechs? You can only stretch the “alternate world” bit so much. That said, there is huge fan energy surrounding the franchise and that has to be respected. I think Good Smile Company has done a fantastic job in that regard with their rendition of Meiya Mitsurugi from Muv-Luv Alternative.
Asu he no Hobby
Originally released in Japan in July of 2007 for around $50 (USD) Good Smile Co has discontinued Meiya and she is now hard to come by. Most retailers seem to be out of stock, fortunately there are plenty to be had via eBay without too much mark-up.
I have a bad habit of buying PVCs irregardless of the fact that I haven’t seen/read the original material the figure is based on. But when they look this jaw-droppingly nice, can you blame me?
I love girls with long hair…and swords. Having the sheath for the katana is a nice touch too.
I don’t know how Good Smile Co did it, but they managed to pull some skin tone through the semi-transparent latex covering. The effect is fantastic, as you can see. The design looks slightly different than what was used in Muv-Luv, so I’m not sure if the completely transparent latex carried through to that game, but part of me is glad they toned it down for this sculpt.
Even without knowing the source for this character, I can easily say this is one of my favorites in my collection and hopefully that came through in the pictures. Good Smile Co has done an excellent job yet again. Enjoy the full gallery below.
