Alter[ed] realities leave me of alter[nate] minds

What we have on display today is a little exercise in dualities or, more specifically, the interesting effect when one company produces two figures and my reaction to the second figure is pretty much diametrically opposed to my reaction of the first figure.  It is rare indeed when I for a single post that I both praise and criticize a single company.  Today we have two companies to boot!

Swimsuits, and plugsuits, and skirts! Oh, moe!

I don’t know about you all but this week turned out particularly expensive for me.  Two of these I knew I would be buying but the third kind of crept up on me and I found her in my pre-order basket despite initially thinking I would pass on her.  Which one is that?  I’ll give you a hint: she has long hair.  Want another?  She costs ¥6800.  Here are the figures I’m excited about this week.

Three eighth scale goddesses

The summer months sure get busy with new figure announcements.  I hope everyone didn’t blow their figure budgets for the year already because if this pace keeps up then we’re in for a year of huge releases.  So, without further ado, here are the new releases I’m excited about this week.

Two guilty pleasures: figma & Eva

Not a lot of action happening on the pre-order scene this week.  Of course that could have something to do with the fact the 2010 Tokyo International Anime Fair as over the weekend where a lot of new figures were previewed (did you catch GSC’s preview of Rin?).  Anyway there were a couple nice surprises this week: surprises that both are guilty pleasures of mine.  Plus both are cheap so the makes me extra happy.

Rico’s Best of 2009

Looking at the calendar I’d say I’m a little late with this concept but I couldn’t find the time this weekend to do a full review so I decided to this instead.  The rules were simple: 1) The figure had to be released in 2009 (so all those GSC and Alter figures that got pushed back didn’t make the cut) and 2) I actually had to own the figure.  Despite those simple rules this ended up being quite the task since so many fantastic figures were released in 2009.  On top of that I decided to be really controversial and rank these 15 beauties.  Why 15?  Because I honestly couldn’t whittle the list down further than that.

Wonder Festival 2010 Winter

Wonder Festival 2010 Winter was held just this last Sunday, one of the premier venues for both professional and amateur figure makers to show off their wares.  The companies which attended the event didn’t seem to showcase as many new figures compared to Wonder Festival 2009 Summer though.  It’s either that or the fact that I’m following new announcements more closely now so not much is surprising me.  Either way here are the figures from the event that I’m excited about.
