A slow week but the new year is already making Waves

I had expected my absence from posting during the holidays to yield a larger figure pool to talk about; similar to what happened when I returned from my previous break.  There were a number of announcements but only a few of them I felt were worth talking about.  There are a couple coming down the pipe from Comiket 77, but since there haven’t been official announcements for those I decided to leave them off.   So here are the figures I’m excited about this week.

Kotobukiya (provisionally) wins this day

Figure makers were out in full force this week with Kotobukiya in particular representing the industry.  Not only did they put out announcements for plethora of pleasing PVCs, but they also officially announced one of the greatest figures in recent memory that I’ve seen from them.  Of course, with Kotobukiya, it’s their game to lose.

Exclusives win this day but tomorrow never knows

When I first started covering “upcoming” figures and noticed all the exclusives coming down the pipe I absolutely hated it.  I thought they were a cheap, gimmicky way to artificially create interest for a figure and get an extra 20-30 bucks out of it at the same time.  Slowly, begrudgingly I began appreciating exclusives for their increased quality and more imaginative compositions, and even found myself ordering a couple despite my initial resolve.  Fast forward to today where nearly everything on my want list is an exclusive.  My name is Rico-sama, and I’m an exclus-aholic.

Alter[nating] Waves

I remember thinking earlier this week that things recently seemed pretty light as far as new figure orders went.  Boy did the way the week ended change all of that.  A school girl, girls in bikini’s, and a fairy wielding a giant cross-bow: how can you not get excited?

Figures I’m Excited About ~WONFES 2009 Ver.~

Wonder Festival Summer 2009 is wrapping up in Japan and it looked like it was amazing: so many figures!  I didn’t have the resources (ie. money) to go to an event like this, but it’s a dream of mine to go to one of these large-scale Japanese cons: Wonfes and Comiket being the ones I’m most eagar to see.  I could’ve tried live-bloging it, but others already had that covered.  Instead I just combined the usual upcoming figures post with some event wrap-up “coverage”.  Oh, and be careful this time if you’re accessing from work - there are a couple of risqué ones.  :3

Kotobukiya 1/8 Emi Kizaki “Swimsuit Ver.” PVC: Linebarrels of Iron

I know some people have rules when they adhere to when they collect PVCs; with the “must have seen the show” rule being one of the most prominent.  That’s also the rule I am continually at odds with.  For example, had I followed that rule I would’ve missed out on this little gem here.  Today we’re taking a look at Kotobukiya 1/8th scale Emi Kizaki “Swimsuit Ver.” PVC from Linebarrels of Iron.
